Olivia Rodrigo Poses in a Purple Plunging Bra For Her New Album Cover Art
One of the most prominent dress styles of the season is the nostalgic visible-bra trend. The cleavage-baring silhouette - which is an evolution of the exposed-bra-strap trend from the early aughts - isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It's an offshoot of the popular lingerie-as-outerwear category that we've seen gaining steam over the years, which includes the corset, exposed-thong, lace, and slip-dress trends. The 2023 approach to visible bras involves showing just a peek of the standard lingerie garment above a dress or top with a plunging neckline. That neckline can include any style ranging from a simple strapless design to a half-cup corset look.
With visible bras, celebrities are experimenting with varying textures, teaming an embellished bra with a white draped gown like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Fendi Couture. They also may use the trend as a color-blocking opportunity, styling a bright-blue bra with a sky-blue slip dress á la Sydney Sweeney in Miu Miu. Olivia Rodrigo managed to embrace color theory and texture play with her look, teaming a ribbed purple bra with a black lacy tank top. Neutrals are also a go-to tone for visible-bra looks. Ashley Graham and Hailey Bieber achieved the look with black bras, while Scarlett Johansson and Cindy Bruna went for lighter colors with basic white and beige respectively.
Most recently, Olivia Rodrigo debuted the cover for her sophomore album, "Guts," which comes out on September 8. In the accompanying art, the singer poses in a black lacy tank top revealing a glimpse of her purple lined bra. She finished the look with several gold rings that spell out the word "GUTS" and a bold makeup look including winged liner and a vibrant red lip. Her hair was styled in soft waves and she wore a cool flaking black manicure.
