Samsung Galaxy S10: More Cameras and a Dedicated Instagram Mode
Samsung has announced its latest flagship smartphone lineup, the Galaxy S10 series. The new phones feature improved cameras and a dedicated Instagram mode.
The S10 lineup comprises four phones: the budget 5.8-inch S10e, the standard 6.1-inch S10, the enhanced 6.4-inch S10+, and the ultra-fast 6.4-inch S10 5G (with 5G connectivity).
The S10e features two basic cameras: a wide angle 12MP Super Speed Dual Pixel AF f1.5/f2.4 OIS with a 77-degree angle of view and an ultra-wide 16MP FF f2.2 with a 123-degree angle of view.
The S10 and S10+ add a third camera: a telephoto 12MP PDAF f2.4 OIS with a 45-degree angle of view.
The S10 5G adds a fourth camera: a 3D Depth hQVGA camera.
On the front of the S10e and S10 is a 10MP Dual Pixel AF f1.9 camera with an 80-degree FOV. The S10+ adds an RGB Depth 8MP FF f2.2 camera with a 90-degree FOV. The S10 5G’s second front-facing camera is a 3D Depth hQVGA camera.
For video, both the front and rear cameras can shoot in 4K UHD, and the rear camera is the first in the industry to let you shoot in HDR10+.
One of the new photo-related features in the ecosystem is Instagram Mode. It allows users to share photos directly to Instagram Stories after editing them and adding stickers, music, hashtags, text — all within the native Camera app.
There’s also a new camera assistant called Shot Suggestion that uses AI and its Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to guide users in composing shots. The same AI helps improve shots via the Scene Optimizer that recognizes the scenes you’re shooting.
Other features of the cameras include the world’s first Dynamic AMOLED display, an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, Intelligent Wi-Fi, AI performance optimization, Android 9.0 (Pie), and fast charging.
The Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ will be available on March 8th, 2019, priced at $750, $900, and $1,000, respectively. Pricing for the Galaxy S10 5G has yet to be announced.
